Confessions of a Beach Read Queen: Let the Summer Begin!
To me the release of the beach books that begins in May signals the beginning of summer in all the best ways possible. The covers are bright or shimmery, the titles bold and/or intriguing. So many wonderful authors, all with very different voices and writing styles. Among the true tests of a beach read? How quickly you can lose yourself in it and how long you want to stay there.
Whether you read curled up on the family room couch, lounging by a pool, sprawled on a beach blanket, or in a car speeding across the country (in which case I recommend an audiobook!) you can live another life, visit another century, and learn more about yourself. There’s every chance that you will laugh and/or cry. It’s kind of like going to Disney World in your head. The only thing you’re required to do is enjoy yourself.I recently had the honor of being named one of thirteen Beach Read Queens by CNN.com along with authors Nancy Thayer, Mary Kay Andrews, Karen White, Hannah McKinnon, Dorothea Benton Frank, Shelley Noble, Patti Callahan Henry, Jane Green, Elin Hilderbrand, Barbara Davis, and Nan Rossiter. (Read the article) I’m delighted to be in such great company, and I have to say that in my experience it’s pretty much always “good to be queen.”
I hope you’ll check out all of these fabulous authors plus a few favorites that I’ve listed in the book club section under Book Picks. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy feeling like royalty.
Tiaras up! And happy reading!
