Starting An Author Platform Pt. 8: Site Improvements
One of my goals for the year was to continue improving my website. While I don’t yet have the funds to make major changes, this website is an ongoing project and I can make some improvements. So, continuing to address new authors, here are details of changes I have scheduled starting June 1st which affect my book release in the coming months.

Landing Page
As I work on the completion of The Bow of Destiny, my website must improve. It needs to become more branded for my writing. Currently, the News page serves as the landing page, offering some updates to what’s going on with my writing and blogging. However, the site needs a more standard page that welcomes visitors and directs them to my writing content. Now is the time to make the change well before the book is released for several reasons:
1. It allows the site to become a sales/promotional tool well in advance of the book release.
2, It will encourage greater connection with site visitors.
3. As I ramp up pre-release efforts throughout the summer, additional content is important. Making readers aware of new, related content can be done through a landing page.
Downloads Page
I can post free downloads for visitors to take advantage of more easily. Here I can post artwork, my Scrivener template, newly released content as pdf documents with links to Amazon and other major e-book vendor sites.
Other Changes
One important change to the site has already occurred. I’ve enabled mobile site themes so that Archer’s Aim is now optimized for viewing from smart phones. This makes it more convenient for visitors to navigate the site, subscribe and choose download/sales links.
The site needs additional updates to content on pages so that visitors are more aware of what I’m doing. The Store and WIP pages need such updates to projects where there’s been a status changed.
Also, as funds become available, I can change the site theme to be more directly branded with The Bow of Hart Saga. Likewise, I’ll be able to improve some of my site tools with plug-ins I’d like to use but cannot at this time since the site is hosted free of charge (but I do receive a lot out of it).
For new writers it’s important to start a site even if it’s humbly minimal. However, continued growth is equally important for branding your writing and reader discovery. Look for more changes to Archer’s Aim as the summer progresses and the release date nears.
