Interview with the Author
Today I am conducting an interview with some of my past characters.
Draven and L have agreed to be with us and give us a little behind the scenes gossip about what’s going on with their lives since they ascended and went to live with the Goddess.
Evangeline–I walk in and find the two of them getting quite cozy. L is sitting on Draven’s lap instead of using the extra chair I gave them. Of course, what else can you expect from a warrior and his new bride? I just hope the chair is strong enough to hold them if they start getting frisky ; )
Evangeline–“Well, you two–let’s get this interview started. It seems you have more–ahem–interesting things to do so I promise not to keep you long. Last time we saw the two of you, you were headed off to live with the Goddess. How has life been for you since then?”
Draven is busy nuzzling L’s neck and looks up briefly. “Fine.”
Evangeline–“What–just fine? Could you be just a little more descriptive? Readers are curious, you know.”
Draven–“Why don’t you tell me since you wrote most of our story and then just left us hanging?”
L–“Now, Draven, baby–be nice.” She looks at me. “We don’t hold a grudge against you for letting our story play out in the background. We’re just glad you put the two of us together.”
Draven–“We’re very happy together. Extremely happy. Although we’d be happier if we could get some privacy.” He nuzzles L under her chin again and she giggles and slaps at his broad shoulder.
L–“Draven, stop. You’re so bad–can’t you straighten up and answer this nice lady’s questions for a minute?”
Draven makes indistinct sounds and starts kissing L behind her ear. Clearly he’s going to be no help.
Evangeline–“I’m glad to see you’re both so happy. Tell me, L, how do you like having the Goddess for a mother-in-law?”
L smiles. “It’s wonderful. I thought it was going to be really intimidating and scary but the Goddess is so kind and loving. Now don’t get me wrong–you don’t want to get on her bad side. But that’s really hard to do.”
Draven looks up and speaks seriously for once. “L is right. She even forgave me for all the trouble and damage I caused while I was without a soul. She’s very loving and forgiving to all her children–not just me.”
Evangeline–“Of course she considers all of the Kindred warriors and their brides to be her children.”
L smiles mysteriously. “Yes, she does. But Draven here isn’t the only biological child the Goddess has.”
Evangeline–“Wait a minute–what? Are you giving away a spoiler, L?”
Draven–“You’d better watch what you say, sweetheart. We wouldn’t want this interview to end early…or would we?” He nuzzled L again.
Evangeline–“But how can the Goddess have biological children? I thought she created Draven.”
L–“Oh, she did–he is created out of the same substance she is made of. But she did spend some time as a mortal once. She wanted to see what her children were experiencing. I believe she was even mated to a Beast Kindred for a time.”
Draven. “Which is when she bore a child–my sister, in fact.”
Evangeline–“Well, this is news to me and I’m sure it’s news to the readers too. Are you telling me we’re going to be seeing more of this child–the Goddess’s daughter–sometime in the future?”
Draven–“You tell us. You’re the one writing all this, remember?”
L–“All right now, no need to get a smart mouth, Mister. Don’t forget that she could have just left us hanging. I might have stayed on the Mother Ship while you ascended and went back to your mom, the Goddess, alone.”
Draven–“True…true. Instead of letting us end up together to complete our bond.” He takes her mouth in a soft but intense kiss and I can tell some unspoken communication is going on between them.
L–murmuring as the kiss finally breaks. “I love you too, baby.”
They are getting very amorous now–I can tell I’ll have to end the interview soon because they are eager to be alone.
Evangeline–“Well, thanks to the two of you for coming today. I hope we’ll hear more from you in the future. And thank you for the spoilers, L. I’m sure readers are wondering who the mysterious daughter of the Goddess might be and when we’ll see her show up in the series.”
Draven–“Oh, I think you’ll see her fairly soon. But for now, you’re not seeing any more of us.”
He picks up L in his arms and carries her out the door, his broad, feathery wings brushing my face as he walks out. The feathers are incredibly soft and smell like warm, masculine spice. I can hear L laughing softly and Draven murmuring to her as they exit.
Well, at least we know they’re happy together. I just wonder when we’ll meet the Goddess’s daughter…
That’s all for now. Check the blog next week for more answers, interviews, and exclusive spoilers for the Kindred and Born to Darkness series.
