The year that was.
Okay, I'm so stealing this idea for a blog post from Lisa Heidke's blog. She inspired me to think about everything I'd planned for 2010 and everything that I actually got done. *sigh* It seems the lists don't match that well.
On the home front my aim was to settle Tribe Cahill back in to Australia after three years living in Singapore. The aim was to have the house sorted and everyone back in school/work quickly and with as little drama as possible. Um…the best of plans often go astray. First Mr.C was not able to move into his new office and carry on with his job. Oh no, to do his job he's had to be out of the country as much as he's been in it. Which of course disrupts our routine every time he leaves or comes home. Son#1 slid right back into Sydney life like he'd never left and having hit the milestone of 21 years he's going ahead in leaps and bounds and I'm one very proud mum. Princess One hit a brick wall. Illness and a struggle with school work have set her back about six months compared to where she wanted to be but like the good little trooper she is she's put her head down and is getting on with. She also celebrated her 18th which means we've lost our designated driver. *grin* Princess & the Pea got her L's and there isn't a day she doesn't want to drive the car. Good thing we've only got one or I'd be spending my days aimlessly driving around Sydney.
The Kid. Right well. I'm not sure where to start. We brought him home with a broken arm last December, around February he broke his nose trying to break pencils in science. (Don't ask, I chose to ignore this event) Then in late March he was representing the school at a football gala day and got flopped on. One broken ankle. After weeks in a cast it was determined that the stupid thing had healed separately so off to physio we went. For weeks! No sooner had we gotten the all clear for that and The Kid is at the skate part doing tricks on his scooter and you guessed it, broken collarbone. Eight weeks and one day later he's riding a pocket rocket at about 30km an hour. Yeah, you know where this is going, right? He somehow ends up on the road. (I don't want details, I'm over the details.) Off we go to the hospital. The Kid was in so much pain we couldn't determine exactly what hurt so the doc gave him something that made him do this….
Yes he's grinning. Before that he was screaming and crying and thrashing about. Honestly I think it's the most pain I've ever seen him in. I'm hoping he remembers so we don't have a repeat performance but this is The Kid and I have to say that boy is nothing if not a BOY! The only thing I can hold onto is that even though he seems to break a lot the number of times he could break far out way the times he actually does break. I think we're probably looking at 1 in every 500. Yes, he's that……active? yeah, that's the word for it. *grin* So Monday I'm pandering to the poor thing and I'm rearranging furniture so his camp bed has a clear view of the TV in our lounge room and what happens? No it's okay don't panic, he didn't break anything else. I DID!!!! I kicked my toe and the damn thing snapped and I mean snapped. I heard it as well as felt it and I'm still feeling it. My foot is a lovely blue/black that Jess Dee likes to call bright blue but bright blue is a nice color, my foot isn't. And it throbs. Like a rock band. Good thing The Kid has some nice pain killers to share. lol
But enough of life because quite frankly I'm over it. Let's talk writing. *rubs hands together* I had planned to complete the 3rd and 4th coyote books by the end of 2010 and while they've both been started they are no where near finished. *sigh* So what have I done on the writing front…
Coyote Home was contracted-edited-released. Coyote Wild was contracted-edited-released. Coyote Run was contracted-edited-released. Doing Logan was contracted-edited-released. More Of You was finished-submitted…hey, that's not a bad list. When I factor in all the "home" stuff I did good. *grin* Actually, I'm a little impressed with myself. I had no idea I'd been that productive this year. I was wallowing in my little dark corner thinking I'd had a bad year but dammit I've had a good one. I still think I could have done better and I plan to in 2011 but jeez, that list is making me smile and I need a smile right now because…
IT'S ONE WEEK UNTIL CHRISTMAS AND I'M NOT READY!!!!!!!!!!
But then I don't think I'm ever ready. I think I was way more organized when the tribe was little. Now that they're older and can pretty much fend for themselves I never seem to be on top of things. *sigh* I guess that's because I'm always thinking I can do that later. Well no more. It's time to get organized or there won't be a Christmas in this house.
I'm hoping to get a newsletter out this weekend so if you're not subscribed pop your details into the little box up there on the right and you won't miss out. For now I'm heading off to try and get ready for the coming week.
