You can understand the story as a metaphor for every person’s journey from slavery, struggle, duality and the ego to freedom, flow, oneness and the power we call ‘God’. Pharaoh represents the ego. The plagues, Golden Calf and forty years in the desert represent humanity’s struggle to be free of the ego. Our personal individual struggles often hourly, to release the ego’s version of life as dog-eat-dog, one or the other, fear, anger, blame and hate and allow them to be replaced by compassion, grace and openness. Though it seems unfair, given what he’d done and been through, Moses cannot enter the promised land because the ego cannot enter the promised land. Release the ego, you don’t have to do it alone. The power we call ‘God’ is within helping. Remember the parting of the Red Sea, the manna from heaven and the other miracles. Don’t fear the journey. Your soul knows the way.
PS: the story of Jesus can be understood in similar fashion.
