In Time Of Pestilence By Thomas Nashe

Nothing in particular prompted me to reproduce Thomas Nashe’s poem “In Time Of Pestilence” other than it being one of my favourites, together with memories of sitting contentedly, In the school library leafing through anthologies.

Adieu, farewell, earth’s bliss;

This world uncertain is;

Fond are life’s lustful joys;

Death proves them all but toys;

None from his darts can fly;

I am sick, I must die.

Lord, have mercy on us!

Rich men, trust not in wealth,...
