INTRODUCING…MARY ANNE.
Before we get started talking about your writing, tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do for a living (if you’re not a full-time writer) what hobbies you have, etc. Whatever you’d like to share to introduce yourself.
I was born in Mercedes, Texas, but moved to Georgia when I was five years old, which was a very long time ago. I’ve been married to the most practically perfect man on Earth for almost 35 years. We recently adopted a five-year-old Tuxedo cat named Gertrude. I used to show Appaloosa horses and teach aerobics. I love to read and watch crime dramas but I don’t have much time for it anymore. My husband and I also love to travel. I refuse to jaywalk and I cry at the drop of a pin.
1. How did you get started writing?
My mother used to write poems and such, so I grew up thinking that’s what I was supposed to do. I had a few short stories published then decided to write with my husband’s encouragement. My first manuscript was finished but put on a shelf. One day I may dust it off and have it published. “Brilliant Disguise” is the first book in the Charlie McClung Mysteries.
2. What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I write traditional mysteries with a touch of romance. My genre could also be classified as Romantic Suspense or Modern Cozy. I love all kinds of mysteries so I decided that I should write what I love.
3. What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?
I think I’m invisible! I swear, every car on the road is out to smash my little red car. But when I’m not dodging cars, I think about my current manuscript.
4. What is your favorite part of writing?
Creating my own little worlds, saying and doing things I’d never do. I am master of my own universe!
5. What is your least favorite part of writing?
Editing! It’s so humbling and embarrassing. I can’t self-edit, no way, no how. How many mistakes have you found so far? LOL.
6. Pick two celebrities to be your parents. Who would they be and why? Cary Grant and Natalie Wood because I think they are the most attractive, graceful, and suave actors ever.
7. Where do you get the ideas for your stories?
Real life and music, plus a wild and crazy imagination. No, I’m not crazy … what? One of the voices in my head said that was up for debate.
8. Tell me about your ideal reader.
Someone who enjoys a good, clean, believable mystery and who will fall in love with my characters. Oh, and someone who will leave a review and tell the world about my books. Seriously, I deeply appreciate anyone who reads my books.
9. What is your “go to” routine that helps you get in the mood to write? Special beverage? Music? Etc.
My big comfy chair next to a sunny window with a big glass of Dr Pepper Ten by my side.
10. Tell us about your next book & when is it being published? “Criminal Kind” is the third book in the Charlie McClung Mysteries. It takes place two weeks after the second book ends. It will be released June 30, 2015. The cover reveal will be May 22, 2015
