Introductory Post

Hello Goodreads Readers and Writers!

I'm very happy to join your community. I have created the blog for a couple of reasons. One is to promote my three Amazon eBooks: "The Shrinking Sea", "Ben and Dave", and "You Can Go Home Again". I have included previews for each book. I welcome any feedback---good or critical. That will really help me grow as a writer. I tried to add 'Widgets' for each book but am not sure if I did that correctly--Goodreads is checking on that.

The second reason for the blog is I love to read all different types of books. Some of the authors I like: Historical Fiction--Norman Mailer, Gore Vidal, and James Michener; Classical--Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Edith Wharton, Willa Cather, Thomas Hardy, Tolstoy, Tolkien, Dostoevsky, Arthur Conan Doyle, George Orwell, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and about to read Thomas Mann and Thomas Wolfe; Contemporary--Nelson DeMille, Laura Hillenbrand, Updike, the late John Fowles; Science Fiction--my namesake Stephen King, Philip K. Dick, Dan Simmons--and more. I would be really interested in hearing what you have to say about any authors and books.

Also, I am still learning a lot about writing so would also enjoy any comments on writing, publishing, marketing (I have a long ways to go in this area), book clubs, etc. It will be a pleasure conversing with you!

Steve King I did receive this review of my longer work "The Shrinking Sea" recently on Facebook and wanted to share it [still have a hard time making posts like this].

Barbara Smart: "Enjoyed your book, Steve. I think it would benefit our middle school and high school people (especially females) to read this book. I found this book to be memory and thought provoking, while also being entertaining."

Steve King Fortunately, my children's story 'You Can Go Home Again' was included in an anthology, put together by the Belfast Writer's Group, called 'Tense Situations'. What is nice is that the proceeds will go to charity. This is actually my first work that is published (in conjunction with the other writers) in hard copy form in addition to Kindle.

Steve King Last Saturday, I was fortunate to attend a book discussion put on by the Goodreads-Filipino group. The book reviewed was "The Quiet American" by Graham Greene. Maria the moderator did an excellent job of leading the review--first she presented an overview of Graham Greene's life, then the book was discussed on a political level, then literary level. I was very impressed with the quality of the discussion. Most of all, I enjoyed making new friends in the group!
