In this medieval, feudal society there is an archaic practice that states a king may ritually and publicly humiliate any who challenge him as a king or a man.

Rémy has never been an enemy of King Braxton, they were in fact childhood friends who once played taboo games in secret. But when Rémy’s stepmother is insulted by King Braxton’s new wife, Queen Althea, Rémy is sent to challenge the king and win back his stepmother’s honor.

Unfortunately for Rémy, King Braxton was the victor in the challenge, and this time the game of King and conquered is all too real.
