Just a quick question on environmental composition and environments in general. What's your way if going about it? Working it out in the thumbnail stage?

The way I work backgrounds is the same way I do figures. I do a layout, I prepare the underdrawing with all that is necessary so I can easily do the finishes. I quick sketch in the basic structure, buildings, cars, trees, etc, then I find my horizon line and vanishing points and creat a full grid so Everything looks grounded and normal. Then I do finishes. Now here’s the trick to doing a nice perspective grid. This really helped me out when Cory Walker taught me this a decade ago. This link explains it all.
