And the name of the new baby royal is......?

Now that the royal baby watch has come to a happy end, the name game begins. Apparently the three favorite names are Alice, Charlotte, or Olivia. I am a traditionalist, I guess, for I’d like the new baby to be named Elizabeth or Eleanor, though that one is not too likely. And of course I’d not have chosen George; I wanted another King Richard! Here is a link to more royal baby names. What do you all think? Any favorites of your own?

And back to the Middle Ages, May 3rd was an important date on the Yorkist calendar. Cecily Neville was born on May 3rd, 1415 and her daughter, Margaret, future Duchess of Burgundy, was born on that same day in 1446. I found this interesting as my grandmother and my mother also shared the same birthday, in their case, February 19th.
On a sadder note, May 3rd, 1152 was the date of death for Stephen’s queen, Matilda of Boulogne. I don’t think he ever fully recovered from losing her. I really enjoyed writing about her in Saints, for she changed in the course of the book, going from a traditional wife and mother to a woman capable of leading armies, much to her surprise.

Gretchen I just don't see Olivia winning the name game. As a mother of an Elizabeth, I think it's a wonderful name.

Iset Alice appears to be the odds on favourite. I like Elizabeth, but I don't think that will be the chosen name - with George they chose a rather staid, traditional name, but not one that directly honoured a living member of the family - so I don't think it will be Elizabeth. I would also bet on Alice, with Charlotte as the dark horse - both old fashioned traditional names in the royal family, but again not honouring anyone living. Olivia I don't think will win because it's too popular in recent years and the royal couple seem to steer clear of modern or trendy names. I did find "George" far too dull and staid for my liking!

If you ask me, Elizabeth or Eleanor sound great.

Starless One I keep my fingers crossed that one day we will have Richard IV. It's not too late to win Prince George for the Ricardian team. :D

Gin Tadvick I agree with Iset - Olivia probably not the winner. Also as a mother of an Elizabeth (Elizabeth Ann to be precise!), that name would be wonderful. Eleanor would be another one!! As long as it's not Isabella, Marquerite .......

message 5: by Jill (new)

Jill Porter I would have to say Alice. Isn't one of the cousins, Charlotte?

message 6: by Iset (new)

Iset No, there's no Charlotte in the royal family at this time. I believe you're thinking of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

message 7: by Emily (new)

Emily There is a Charlotte. She's the cousin of William and Harry, I think.

message 8: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Pal After just finishing "Lionheart" I was hoping for an Eleanor...

message 9: by Christine (new)

Christine I will always hope for an Eleanor or a Matilda.

Darcey Apparently, the name's just been announced: Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

So they honored his grandmother & mother. That's good. I was hoping they'd work Diana in there.

Sharon They honored his father, too, since Charlotte is the feminine form of Charles.
