Every year in mid-April, CV2 (a Canadian poetry journal) sponsors the 48-hour poem contest. At midnight of the appointed day, they email you 10 words. You have 48 hours to write a poem using those exact words. You cannot change tenses or go from singular to plural. You have to use them correctly according to dictionary definitions (although since it is a poetry contest, metaphorical usage seems to be acceptable). We always enter. It's fun and challenging -- they always throw in at least one really awful word -- last year's was "putative." This year the words weren't too bad, although I think Michael took issue with "pyrite."
So, for my first post on this new blog, I challenge you to write your best poem using these 10 words:
