The Day After: Cleaning Up in Baltimore

Image On Tuesday, Baltimore residents began to clear the wreckage of rioting and fires that erupted the day before, after the funeral of a 25-year-old black man who died in police custody. Riot police and National Guard troops stood guard on the smoldering streets after protesters after protesters torched cars and buildings and looted stores. Nineteen buildings and 144 vehicles were set on fire, and 202 people were arrested, according to the mayor's office. People around Baltimore formed volunteer clean-up crews on Tuesday to help affected store owners, repair damaged structures, and clean streets strewn with debris.
