Snow Like Ashes – A review by Mary
Yap, fantasy is totally my genre.
Okay, people, this book is amazing and if you
haven’t picked it up yet, you really should. I’m not going to get spoilery so
this will be relatively short.Meet Meira, orphan soldier-girl, a refugee on
the run from the big bad evil. Meira lives in Primoria, a world divided into
eight kingdoms, four Seasons and four Rhythms. Sixteen years ago, Winter – one of
the Seasons kingdoms – was invaded and conquered by Spring – another Season –
and its people made slaves. Except for twenty-five refugees. Now, only eight
remain but they will stop at nothing to get their kingdom back.Okay, me trying to explain a fantasy plot is
not exactly very enlightening. But I think you get the drill. While you read,
it’s so easy to connect with the characters and, because of that, you feel the
Cap. America’s kind of patriotic love all of them have for Winter. That’s the
main thing about this book, not the romance or friendships, but the “we’re part
of something bigger” feel. And I just loved it.Although, as I’ve said, it’s not the biggest
thing about this book, there is romance in here. I’m not going to say anything
about it, only that you should not be quick to judge it when certain things
happen. Because it’s so damn well written and I’m sure it won’t be annoying in
future books. Also, shirtless guys are
hot.One thing I recommend is to not make Throne of
Glass comparisons while reading it. I did it in the beginning and had to force
myself to stop. It’s not the same, at all. Meira and Celeana are very different
and amazing in different ways and any similarities between the books will be
forgotten while the story progresses.I can honestly say I saw the plot twist coming.
But only because I formulate a thousand different theories in my mind as I read
and one of them came true. It was still very amazing and I kept
hyperventilating for a good 40 pages. One of my favorite things about this book is
that it’s never boring. I had nights I was only able to read one chapter and I
still got excited. So much happened in four hundred ages and I’m kind of glad
Sara didn’t drag the situation on.As for the next book I just want my babies to
be happy and alive and well.Really, you should give this a try.
We are Winter,
