Queanbeyan in flood

The Queanbeyan River flows through the centre of town in a gentle way. It’s a very pretty river. Observe:

This is where the Riverside Caravan Park currently is:

When we went down (at 3.30pm) there were hundreds of people there. The police and SES weren’t too concerned. The Army arrived, to start helping with things. The water had started to drop at this stage, but this picture of the waterline at the entrance of the Riverside Plaza carpark shows where it was:

See the black line around the pole at hubby’s hips? There. And he’s not short, either.

So all in all – Queanbeyan is flooded. Who knows how long it will be before the water goes down and we know the extent of the damage. Hopefully, it won’t be too bad.

Lily Mulholland Our office is in Queanbeyan. Most of us were in Sydney running a conference, but I had to order the evacuation of our office! Exciting times in Queanbeyan. Thank goodness all is returning to normal now. Have you seen Lake BG yet? Full of dead trees that have been washed into it from the Molongolo. Amazing power in all that water.

Nicole Murphy No, haven't been to Lake BG yet. Glad it's just trees and not coffins, as in 74 when the flood washed out the Queanbeyan Cemetary!

Lily Mulholland Now there's a story idea!

Nicole Murphy That's what I thought, however it wouldn't be a story - ended up a poem and I suck at poetry. However, you've inspired me and I'm going to post it on the blog :)
