Read Exciting New Doctor Who Novellas & Short Stories at NetFics!
Philip Bates is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
How do you fancy reading brand new fiction starring some of your favourite Doctors? NetFics is here just for you!
Showcasing high quality fan fiction that may otherwise go unnoticed in the plethora of entries on the net, the new site launches with a Doctor Who-themed edition. NetFics is less about quantity and more about quality. Each month, they add just five new stories – including a “NetFics Exclusive” short story you won’t find anywhere else on the net – and interview the new writers. Each page is ideally presented for mobile, tablet, or desktop viewing.
From the long con of The Rallax Operation, the bitter-sweet recollections of The War Of Jenkins’ Ear (And Other Stories), and the literary lunacy of Pulp’d Fiction, the stories in this first collection make good on the Doctor’s tantalising invitation, “all of time and space; everywhere and anywhere; every star that ever was… Where do you want to start?”
This volume also features In Her Absence, and Fimbulvinter, as well as aforementioned interviews with the authors. NetFics’ Nic Ford writes:
“Tonight, I watched an episode of Doctor Who (of which I am a bit of a fan). It was the first episode in a story called The Ribos Operation, and it has in it a rather well drawn character – a chancer, a ne’er-do-well, a con artist – called Garron.
Thing is, I know his first name. It’s Buckminster. Buckminster Garron. Rather good, don’t you think?
But it’s never stated in the TV series. In fact, it was never mentioned until a couple of years ago when a (whisper it: fan!) fiction called The Rallax Operation was written. It also had Garron in it, and it revealed his name.
And the point is this. The Rallax Operation was not fan fiction. It was simply good, well-written, well-plotted… fiction. It was Doctor Who – every bit as much as the TV episode.”
NetFics is open to submissions and further months will cover fandoms like Firefly and Harry Potter. Volume 2 will features both Doctor Who and Sherlock stories, and will be released next month.
