My mother was a librarian and my sister and I spent many hours in the different libraries that she worked in, reading, listening to story time, etc. Both my sister and I started reading very early, had no trouble once we entered school and both had very good reading skills. It is hard to believe when I hear people say that they don't like to read. I just can't imagine it!! My sister became a librarian also. We are both in our 60's now and still avid readers.

My first library trip {that I can recall] was on the bookmobile that stopped right in from of our house.
My first trip to the Library was also another Carnegie Library! It is still a Library to this day. It is a beautiful building but I seldom go there because the stairs make it too hard to get into.
Loved my 1st library--housed in a very old house with wooden floors that creaked when you walked around--in Indianapolis, IN. We visited through all kind of weather, including my mom pulling us in a little red wagon through the snow. After we moved, enjoyed Bookmobile trips, until I read all the books in it! Finally, a new library was built! Still read before going to sleep every night!
When I grew up there was no library in our town. The contents of our school library was a large bookcase for each grade. So I read encyclopedias, my brother-in-law's college textbooks, and anything that someone would share with me. I have developed eclectic reading choices and a love for libraries. I often joke that I could not afford my reading habit.

April is National Library Month which brings to mind my very first visit to the library. I must have been around five years old at the time. My mother had heard about story time and brought me to the Yakima, WA library.
