Bruises that tell me certain stories,

and some that remain a mystery.

The stories along my skin

are tales that I have not yet told,

but am in the process of coming to terms

with the past that still shows itself

on the surface of my brittle limbs.

I am not ashamed of my journey.

I will never try to hide the truth

beneath layers of polyester and cotton.

My body is a map of the places

I have been and where I am still
