Another STAC Mystery Launched

The last day of March sees the release of A Theatrical Murder the 13th outing for Joe Murray and his Sanford 3rd Age Club pals.

AthI own a couple of DVDs of Hamlet: the 1990 effort starring Mel Gibson, and the RSC’s 2009 production with David Tennant in the title role. The former opened my eyes to Gibson’s acting ability. He’s not all Mad Max and Lethal Weapon. The latter, in which Tennant excelled, had the kind of modern spin we see from Malcolm Sedgwick in A Theatrical Murder.

It’s easy to see where I get some of my STAC Mystery ideas. The actual whodunit is the difficult part. The settings come from the way life surrounds me.

And real life gave me another idea yesterday.

I got caught by a speed camera back in February, and I had a choice of taking a fine and penalty points, or going on a speed awareness course. I chose the latter. It’s a long time since I did any driver training and it never does any harm to brush up.

By the end of the day, another STAC Mystery was on the mental drawing board. Either Joe, Sheila or Brenda is nicked for speeding, attends a four-hour course and during the day, one of the group is murdered.

That’s all I know for now, but I’ll be roughing it out today as I keep my eye on the Facebook launch event for A Theatrical Murder.

I don’t yet know where it will fit into the series. I have at least three in hand which need to be published before I can think of anything else. So don’t hold your breath.

Just watch this space.

***A Theatrical Murder is published by Crooked Cat and available in all e-formats. There is a launch event on Facebook to which everyone is welcome.
