What I love the most about the tarmac scene is how unearthly beautiful Sherlock is in his new found selflessness. He’s radiating love and sacrifice. In contrast, Mary is filmed in a really unflattering way as if the ugliness of her soul was suddenly resurfacing and coming back to haunt her features. 




Seriously. It’s all there in her hair. They could have given the woman a root touch-up if they didn’t want people interpreting it this way. Although my main thought is still that Mary, just as at Sherlock and John’s reunion, is just completely irrelevant to that scene. It’s about them and no one else even matters.
