This is one of my parents' favorite memories and photographs from the hours spent at the Heidi Allen Command Center, housed in the New Haven Volunteer Fireman's Hall. This sweet child arrived with her piggy bank, if memory serves me correctly. She signed in and explained what she had been saving for but wanted to donate her entire piggy bank to help find Heidi.
This isn't the only child who touched our hearts yet this is one captured with a photo. One child donated a penny, another donated his allowance for the week. Some drew pictures to cheer up my parents. There was hundreds, if not thousands, of people who crossed the threshold to help in some way to answer my parent's question...Where's Heidi?
We appreciate all that so many did yet as I was looking for a picture the other day and saw this one in the file, I lifted a "thank you" to God for the many, many, many, angels He surrounded us with in 1994 and the decades to follow. Some of these angels were children younger than Heidi and I'm grateful. Grateful, for the example their parents must have modeled because these children gave from the heart...to help. How has a child influenced you or your life?
