Do you think that corporate comics as a day job while working on your own shit is a valid living? Like, Spider-Man to eat, my creation Punchman 9000 to have something for the future.

At this point if you’re a guy who they would give Spider-man to I assume you would make more money even in the short term on work that you own yourself. A place like Marvel takes a much higher % of sales than a company like Image.

Another aspect is that with editorial, you might not be in control of what the final work looks or reads like or who you’re teamed up with on a book— I know creators who have had their work changed— Obviously that’s not every book, but it’s a thing that happens.

I’ve got my own long list of moral reasons to not work at those places but I’m in a really blessed place where I can make those choices and not have to worry about surviving in comics. Plus I know of a lot of creators who I respect who have chosen for whatever reasons to work in those places.

Soooooo to answer your question. not for me. but I never wanna say what a valid job is for someone else— I’m sure it works great for some people.
