Text for Tired Eyes:
Tear me down, throw hate like confetti
and watch me dance beneath it.
Tear me down, reduce all this
to an insult, to a tired telling
of a tired joke that never bathed
in laughter. More than love
lives in the letters I let land,
I cannot show you the way
to finding it. Tear me down,
spread negativity like a seed,
and water it with your anger,
I will stop and smell them all
when they grow. Destruction
is a skill that never needed practicing,
it’s so much easier to destroy,
to push down than help up. Point
your fingers, stained in the same places,
and shout at the words I write.
I’ve never wished for deaf ears,
I want to hear the sounds of your bashing.
Tear me down, speak with bravado
behind the bulletproof glass of distance
and the blue glow of a computer screen,
It’s safe there, safe in the dark with the halo
of hate shining back on you, it’s safe there
far from this face, and this skin, and these
arms to stand before you. Tear me down,
and when you fall, I will be there, quiet,
waiting to help you back up.
