Random thoughts on writing and revisions

Hey, peeps!  Hope you all had a smashing Turkey Day. And for those of you who don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing weekend.

As I sit here at my kitchen table, helping my daughter finish up her explorer report (she's in the fourth grade and has a ton of homework) I find myself thinking about writing.

Yeah, I know, not really a stretch ... me thinking about writing. Whatever!

We all know I started and didn't finish Nano this year. That's okay with me. I've been pushing myself to write everyday, which is something I didn't do with the first three books I penned. I wrote in spurts, finishing large chunks at a time, then taking breaks. The small breaks allowed me to refresh my creativity and re-energize, which is something I've found I need to do. If you've followed my blog then you've seen me agonize over this for the past few months.

About a week ago, could be longer ( my memory isn't what it used to be) I received a revision letter from  a large epub for a romantic suspense I completed earlier in the year. What I found interesting was that while I need to take breaks during my initial write, I am a machine when it comes to revisions. It's like some uber-focused robot takes hold of my brain and shuts everything else out. I eat, sleep and breathe the manuscript until the revision is complete. If i'm not able to write, not able to work on the revision, I get a sick, squirrelly feeling deep in my chest and inevitable turn cranky and rabid. Yes, I'm admitting right now, I can get real ugly when I'm editing. Hahaha!

Thinking back, I was the same way with revisions for EOS. I remember sitting in my recliner for long, marathon writing sessions. I was single focused and determined, and funny as it sounds, I enjoyed it. I know some people think editing and revisions are the devil. Not me. I'm the weirdo that enjoys them. Guess I need to get my head checked. Lol!

Anyone else like me? Do you cringe when you receive a revision letter, or do you hunker down with a glass of wine, some good snacks and dive in with determination and excitement?

Weigh in with a comment. Have a great night, everyone!
