NUMBERS GAME

The room is solid white and seems to stretch on forever. John does not know how he got here. On the floor is a phone. He is alone. (1)
John dials for help: 9-1-1. No answer. Frustrated, he tries again and again, though he receives the same results. John begins to panic. (2)

An hour later, the phone rings, and John immediately grabs for it. He fumbles momentarily before speaking into it....
