Launch party!
I have good friends - really good friends. Not only do they put with me when I get overly excited with every review I get, but on release day, they took me out for a meal to celebrate.
Victoria, (the same Victoria the book is dedicated too), found an American smokehouse in Hull which I never knew existed, and took me and a few people from work, there so we could try some traditional Southern food. As it was also Mardis Gras, she also made some fabulous masks (which you can see in the pictures below).
And did I mention the card and champagne?
I'm one of the lucky ones who enjoys her job - and these guys are why!! I HAD MY FIRST SHRIMP PO'BOY IN YEARS AND IT WAS AMAZING!!! (Yes, that statement required capital letters.)
I'm going to take this opportunity to turn my blog post into a food review, because that sandwich was that good! I had a corn dog for starters (weird craving), which was delicious. The po'boy was chock full of shrimp, and had a huge helping of sweet potato fries with it. Finishing it up was a slice of Pecan Pie. Again, delicious. Actually, everything that came out looked amazing, and to top it off, was excellent value for money.
My only complaint was the dirty rice. It wasn't dirty rice. It was, at best, spiced rice, which don't get me wrong, was tasty. But I wanted my ground meat and sticky/sloppy consistency.
That being said, now that I know this place exists, I will be back - and they have a takeout menu too. Unfortunately, I've just made myself hungry by writing this. I think I'll be back soon!
