It was a typical Monday morning eight weeks ago. Paid some bills and bought new tires for the car. Then I had a thought. It went something like, “Wow, we are finally out of our financial hole.” Three years earlier my husband had been laid off. Then he was diagnosed with cancer and our dog was tragically killed. Country songs are composed with such stories. Feelings of gratitude overwhelmed our family when we finally had a new job. Surviving a chapter of unemployment felt like a badge of honor. Our family had learned valuable lessons, we were better for it and so we checked that experience off our “bucket list,” so to speak. Then came the stages of under-employment and a slow financial recovery. But it did come.
We were finally financially above water on the day a call came from my husband saying he was coming home early on a Monday.
