A Very Xany Fairy-tale
by Jules
It was noted early on that Xandrea Wade aka, Xany, was not your average child. She developed early and by the age of four, she could talk in full, articulate sentences. It was also discovered that she wasn’t your typical girl. At the age of six, Xany had broken both arms, fractured her leg and had several concussions. She also idolized her brother, Michael, aka Mal. If he went for a run, she tagged along. If he jumped out of a tree, she did too. Hence the brokenleg.
Mal grew tired of being followed by his eight year old sister, who now dressed like him in nothing more than a loincloth and moccasins. He devised a plan to teach the rambunctious sibling a lesson. He would lead her up to one of the caves in the mountain and then abandon her there over night then maybe she would quit following him around. Mal bribed one of the older boys into watching over his sister through the night to make sure nothing ate her. He thought he had the perfect solution until he got up the next morning only to find his parents sitting at the kitchen table waiting on him. They never said a word as they pointed to a chair for him to sit. Mal nearly choked when Xany came to sit next to him looking as if she had gotten into a fight with a cat.
He spent the next hour sitting there listening to his mother, Windy, tell him all one thousand reasons why what he did was wrong. His father, Jack, just sat there shaking his head in disappointment. All the while Xany sat quietly. Once his mother finally took a breath, Xany piped in saying that it wasn’t his fault and that she had refused to come home. She explained that she had wanted to spend the night out there alone to watch the meteor shower. Mal was stunned and couldn’t figure out why she had lied about the whole thing. His mother didn’t look convinced as Jack consoled Xany and tended to her wounds.
Mal, figuring all was cool, forgot about the incident until a couple of years later. Xany had slacked off following him around all the time and in the process he had taught her things. Like how to tell the difference in animal tracks and how to trap smaller animals. To snap its neck quickly for a nice clean kill. Most of the time when she did trap an animal she would bring it to him as a snack. Which was fine until one day his tasty treat had a funny flavor to it. He had assumed that it was just an old sick rabbit. Nothing his wolf digestion couldn’t handle. They played for a time then went back to the house so he could get ready to go camping with a group of boys from the pack. He never suspected a thing as she stood in the doorway with that ever so sweet smile on her face waving goodbye to him. Later as he unpacked his backpack he found a note from Xany saying she hoped he enjoyed his night out under the stars. It confused him and he didnt give it a second thought. Of course that was before he spent the whole camping trip out under the stars crapping his brains out. He found out that Xany had pumped the dead rabbit full of laxatives as payback for leaving her on the mountain.
