Mentor Me: Self-Help and Business Book with Additional Themes
When I wrote Mentor Me: GA=T+E—A Formula to Fulfill Your Greatest Achievement, I wanted to make sure it fulfilled its mission as a self-help, self-improvement, personal success, mentoring, coaching, and business book. From a superficial reading people have called it “succinct,” “real-world practical,” “easy-to-read,” and “relatable.”
Additionally, I wanted to write a book that could be referred back to over and over again, becoming an integral part of someone’s life. In contrast to many self-help or business books in the marketplace, “Mentor Me” is very personal and ultimately different for each reader.
There is an individualized, interactive nature to “Mentor Me,” whereas the reader defines their own life goal(s) and makes their own blueprint to achieve it (them) with the help/guidance of the tools provided within the pages of “Mentor Me.”
The Surprise and Secret of Mentor Me
The biggest surprise to me is that not one review written about “Mentor Me” has mentioned or picked up on the additional themes intentionally embedded in the book. It seems when people read a “typical” self-help or business book they are pre-programmed to read superficially, missing the sometimes blunt and mostly subtle additional themes written into this “self-help and business book.”
For example, less than subtle themes are addressed in the Preface of “Mentor Me.” These additional themes, such as, the meaning of life, religion, and heaven/hell, to name just a few, were intentionally placed there to alert readers that there is so much more going on in this book than merely a “self-help and business book.”
Who addresses the meaning of life in the Preface of their book? Hmmm…can you see there may be a lot more to this succinct book than just a “typical” self-help and business book? In the Kindle version I do take readers down one of these paths through a link to my blog on the concept of Newton’s Law of Conservation of Energy and Quantum Entanglement.
Not Just a Self-Help and Business Book
So what is “Mentor Me,” really? Yes, on a superficial level it is a self-help, self-improvement, mentoring, coaching, personal success, and business book. It fulfills the role of these genres. On a whole other level it is the crossroads and convergence of where science, metaphysics, religion, and utopian society intersect.
The fun for me when I wrote “Mentor Me” was to see what people thought of it initially; for me to see if anyone commented or picked up on these subtle (and some not so subtle) additional themes.
I always had in mind the ability to speak publicly about “Mentor Me,” later, after people had originally read it as just a superficial, “typical” self-help and business book. Then I could send readers back with additional themes in mind, to re-read it through a new lens.
So in effect, “Mentor Me” is a bit of a literary chameleon. When armed with the search for additional themes, each reader will most likely walk away with their own personal experience and ideas, much like when they first read “Mentor Me” as just a self-help and business book.
So if you have already read “Mentor Me,” it’s time to go back and re-read it from a new and deeper perspective searching for additional themes. I will be interested to see what readers say and write in reviews, when looking at the book from this new perspective.
