ASA Episode 4: Aftermath

Episode 4 - Aftermath

“Trevon, open your eyes for me. Come on honey, don’t leave me waiting.” Bay pleaded as she held Trevon’s head in her lap.

She was so scared that he would die, it would be her fault if he did. When the the explosion happened she had just started leaving the dance floor. She heard Trevon calling out her name then she felt someone tackle her to the ground. She only had a few seconds to orient herself and realize that Trevon had been the one to tackle her and cover her with his larger body.

The next thing she knew wood beams began to fall from the ceiling. Several fell on top of Trevon. He was hit in the head and passed out. Someone else came and helped move the beams off of Trevon but he still had not woken up yet. She was getting desperate.

“You’re scaring me. If you wake up I’ll go on that date you've been asking for for years now.”

Trevon’s eyes blinked open. He looked at her and smiled. “Finally, I knew you would come around. I just had to wear you down until you agreed.”

She half cried half laughed in relief. He was okay. Thank God. “You have no sense whatsoever.” She shook her head.

Trevon tried to sit up but winced in pain. Bay pushed him back down. “Easy. Wait until the paramedics come to help. They are taking everyone to the campus med center. I, also, overheard them calling for outside help too.”

“Where’s everyone else? Caroline, Blayne, Lacey, and Rigs?” He turned his head to look around but there was a lot of smoke fogging up the place.

“Caroline got a phone call five minutes after we arrived and had to leave. She didn’t say what it was, just some kind of emergency. I don’t know where Blayne or Lacey are. Last I saw Lacey was dancing with Rigs and Blayne was watching them like a hawk. I’m hoping they were were further away from the detonation.” Bay fought the tears. She was really worried about her friends and her brother.

“Maybe we’ll see them at the med center.” Trevon tried to reassure her.

“I hope so. I think I would know if something bad happened to Blayne, we’re really connected.” She prayed that her twin was okay.

Lacey groaned as she felt her body being lifted and placed on the paramedics bed. She opened her eyes and squinted. “What happened?”

“Thank God you’re awake. Hey Blayne she’s awake.” Rigs called out.

Lacey looked to her right side to find Rigs following as the paramedics carried her to their transport. “Are you okay? Where’s Blayne?”

“I’m here. I’m fine I don’t need to be on this thing.” Blayne growled out.

Lacey turned her head to her left and sighed with relief to see Blayne on a bed like hers being lifted by the paramedics. She looked over at Rigs. “Did you get hurt?” She frowned see the cut on his forehead with some blood dripping down.

Rigs reached for her hand. “I’ve got a small cut that’s all. It’s you I’m worried about. Do you hurt anywhere?”

She shook her head then stopped suddenly paling. “My head hurts.”

“You hit it on the pavement when you were thrown from the blast.”

“Blast?”

“Yeah, some kind of bomb was detonated. Both you and Blayne were thrown from the blast. It scared the shit of out me.”

She coughed. She turned back to Blayne. “Are you sure you are okay?”

Blayne smiled at her. “I have cuts and bruises, got the wind knocked out of me. Have to say could have done without waking up to Rigs standing over me. Our first date went off with a bang huh?”

“Don’t make me laugh it hurts my ribs and my head.”

“Sorry honey.” Blayne apologized. He looked over at Rigs. “Have you seen my sister?”

“I saw her briefly with Trevon. He was being taken to a transport too. She looked okay though.”

“Thanks. Do they know what caused the explosion?” Blayne shifted on the small bed.

Rigs shook his head. “Not yet. There are investigators here looking everything over. Expect to be questioned. I spent five minutes answering questions already.”

Rigs looked down at Lacey and frowned. She had fallen asleep again. He gently squeezed her hand. “Baby, you have to stay awake. You could have a concussion.”

She squeezed back but didn’t open her eyes. “Good, I couldn’t feel this damn pain in my head if I were asleep.”

Rigs motioned for the paramedics to give her something. A few seconds later Lacey’s frown disappeared from her face. She opened her eyes and stared at Rigs. He was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. “Thanks.”

“For what?”

“Staying with me.”

Rigs leaned down and whispered in her ear. “There’s nowhere I’d rather be than by your side.”

Bay didn’t want to leave Trevon but they were doing x-rays on his head and she had to find her brother. She walked the hallways littered with injured students and nursing staff. Most of the students had minor cuts and bruises. But she couldn’t see her brother anywhere. Panic was starting to set in. The she spotted Rigs standing outside a room. He was pacing back and forth. She pushed through the crowd to get to him.

“Riggs!” Bay called out. He turned to look at her and walked her way.

“Are you okay Bay?”

“I’m fine. What about Blayne and Lacey? I haven’t seen them.”

Rigs hugged her briefly. “They are being checked out right now. They both hit their heads on concrete when the bomb went off.”

Bay trembled. “A bomb? Are you sure it was a bomb?”

Rigs nodded. “Yeah, I overhead the Dean and the Fire Chief talking. They came here to question more people. The remains of the detonation was found. But there were no prints.”

“Who would set off a bomb in a dorm? It doesn’t make any sense.”

“I don’t know. But the authorities are pretty worried about it. All the dorms and campus buildings are being searched.”

“Are you sure Blayne is okay?” Bay bit her lip worriedly.

“He’s had his x-rays and is waiting for the results while they treat his cuts and bruises. I’m worried for Lacey. She kept falling asleep and complained of her head hurting.” Rigs admitted.

“They’ll both be fine. They have to be.”

“What about the others? Trevon and Caroline?” Rigs asked looking down the hallway hoping to see them bringing Lacey back.

“Trevon is getting x-rays too. He had knocked me out of the way when the beams started to fall from the ceiling. But one hit his head and knocked him out. Caroline left as soon as we got to the party. She said something came up that needed her attention.”

He frowned. “Like what? This party was her idea. Is sounds suspicious that she would just up and leave before the explosion.”

“What are you saying? Do you think she would have something to do with the bomb?” Bay could not believe what Rigs was implying.

“I don’t know what to believe. All I know was when I saw Lacey laying on the ground not moving, my heart stopped beating. I wish they would bring her back already.”

“Yeah, I’m kind of worried about Trevon. He saved my life. But at what cost?”

*****

“Hey kiddo. How ya doing?” Trevon called out.

“Trevon?” Lacey sat up on the hospital bed. She was in the holding room awaiting for them staff to do her x-ray. She noted Trevon being wheeled out in a wheelchair. “What happened to you?”

He laughed. “I thought I would see if my head could break a ten inch wood beam. Guess it broke my head instead. How about you?”

“My head hit the cement.”

“Damn. Does it hurt much?”

“It did at first. But the paramedics gave me something for the pain. Is Bay and Caroline okay?”

“Bay is. I was able to push her out of the way before the beams came down. Caroline left before everything went down.”

“Where did she go?”

“I don’t know. Bay said she got a phone call five minutes after they got to the party and said there was an emergency and she had to leave.”

“That’s really weird. She had been looking forward to this party.”

“It is weird. Do you know what happened to Rigs?”

“He has a cut and some bruises. But otherwise he’s okay.”

“So...how was your first date?” Trevon asked with laughter in his eyes.

“It was...unforgettable.”

*****

“Did it go as planned?” A man’s voice asked over the phone.

“Yes Sir. The authorities have no idea what is going on.”

“Good. Get our people in place for the net move.”

“Already on it.”
