Trending: Was Facebook hacked?

Facebook users from Asia, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom reported Monday night that they were unable to access the social media site as well as Facebook owned app Instagram and Facebook reliant app Tinder.  CNN reported that this temporary loss of Facebook, Instagram and Tinder brought users to Twitter to express their thoughts on the outage. Users joined the conversation with #facebookdown, which was trending for a few hours.

Popular hacking group, Lizard Squad, tweeted “Facebook, Instagram, Tinder, AIM, Hipchat #offline #LizardSquad” hinting that they were responsible for the outage. After debate about whether or not the site had been hacked Facebook told USA TODAY, “Earlier today many people had trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram. This was not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems. We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100% for everyone.”

This hour loss has been the biggest outage Facebook has had since September 24, 2010 when the site was down for two and a half hours.
