Apache Trail

I spent most of Sunday afternoon driving the Apache Trail collecting research for "Sacred Gold". The trail winds around the Superstition mountains, past Goldfield, Apache Junction and then partially ends at Tortilla Flats. Not wanting to miss the rest of the trail, we covered the 22 mile unpaved stretch that ended at Roosevelt Dam. Steep one-lane mountain passes, switch-back turns and old iron bridges are part of the experience. Imagine how the early miners and settlers covered this same distance on horseback and in wagons. A very rugged and beautiful terrain and an excellent place for Mick Scott to begin his adventure looking for the Lost Dutchman Mine.
