Synopsis

When the Richmond police offer an exclusive in exchange for help with a case, nothing—not even a costume party—stops crime reporter Nichelle Clarke from making Manolo tracks to the crime scene. The hunt leads her to a televangelist’s compound in the Virginia countryside where the Reverend may be more interested in fat stacks of cash than he is saving wayward souls.

With two sexy guys tangled up in Nichelle’s story—and in her heart—work and love are on a crash course for disaster. Pressure pours in from every corner, including a faceless new competitor that means the deadline is always five minutes ago. As secrets threaten and the truth becomes her lifeline, Nichelle must unmask the killer and nail down the story before she’s snared in the carefully-constructed web.

About This Author

LynDee Walker’s award-winning journalistic work has appeared in newspapers and magazines across the nation.

Her debut novel, FRONT PAGE FATALITY, is an amazon and Barnes & Noble #1 bestseller, and was nominated for the Agatha Award for Best First Novel. DEVIL IN THE DEADLINE is the fourth in LynDee’s Headlines in High Heels mystery series. The fifth arrives October 2015.

LynDee adores her family, her readers, and enchiladas. She often works out tricky plot points while walking off the enchiladas. She lives in Richmond, Virginia, where she is either playing with her children, working on her next novel, or admiring beautiful shoes she can’t wear.

Interview

Babs….When did you know you wanted to write?

LynDee: Gosh, since forever. I loved books and loved to read from before I could talk, my mom always said. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be Lois Lane. But I never knew I wanted to be an author until Nichelle popped into my head and wouldn’t leave me alone. By the time I’d finished writing Front Page Fatality(that was in 2009), I had a whole new writing dream.

Babs…..What would you like your readers to get out of Devil in the Deadline?

LynDee: I always want the readers, above everything, to have fun. I want them to get lost in the characters and the mystery. To like Nichelle and her friends enough to imagine tagging along to happy hour after a long day at the Telegraph.

From Devil, I’d like folks to learn that things aren’t always what they seem. This is the first of my books where the central mystery is based (in part) on a story I covered as a working reporter. Pretty facades and faithful words don’t always tell the truth.

Babs…..Do you have a current project in the works?

LynDee: Always! I’m currently playing beat the deadline with the fifth (FIFTH!) Headlines in High Heels novel, tentatively titled COVER SHOT and due out in October. Nichelle and the gang are as much fun as ever, and this story is about as complicated as they come. I’m having a blast.

Babs…..Do you have a ritual when you are writing?  ie coffee, music, food etc

LynDee: I have three small children, so it’s pretty much every word for itself, but ideally, I like to have coffee (in the morning or evening, icewater with lime in the afternoon) and the 90s station on the radio.

Babs…..Hobbies outside of writing?

LynDee: My family is my life. We’re always on the go, and generally up for trying anything at least once. Among our favorite things to do: bike rides, rock climbing, cooking, and anything to do with Disney World or the beach.

Babs….What book or books are you currently reading?

LynDee: I just finished reading an advance copy of Craig Lancaster’s forthcoming THIS IS WHAT I WANT. It. Is. Phenomenal. I’m honored to be offering a cover blurb for it, as soon as I figure out what to say besides “Wow.” It’s due out in July.

Babs….If you could be one character from one of your books who would it be?

LynDee: Ooooh, there’s one I haven’t been asked! I don’t know. I would love to be Nichelle, of course, for the adventure and the shoes—but I don’t think I’d care for all the turmoil of her personal life. I’m a one guy kind of girl, and my guy is pretty amazing. I love my little monkeys, too, and Nichelle wouldn’t know what to do with a diaper if her Louboutins depended on it.

I think I’d choose Melanie. She’s the City Hall reporter at the Telegraph, and she helps Nichelle out, but no one shoots at her. Plus, she has a pretty great guy who thinks she hung the moon.

Babs…Favorite drink?

LynDee: The Midori sour. There is a little of me in Nichelle.

Babs…..What is your favorite ice cream?

LynDee: Blue Bell Birthday Cake. All the other ice cream companies do that flavor wrong, but Blue Bell’s is off the charts amazing. Worth every mile it takes to burn off.

Babs….What is your favorite food?

LynDee: So many of them! If I had to pick only one favorite, I’d say really good cheese enchiladas, made with queso blanco and carne sauce.

Babs…Anything else you would like to add?  ( links to any blogs/sites to follow etc)

LynDee: Thanks so much for having me today! What fun questions. Readers can find me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/lyndeewalkerbooks, on twitter @LynDeeWalker, and online at www.lyndeewalker.com.
