This makes me so mad because of the” guilty” part, as if this is something you read on break at work but make excuses for, like “oh I’ve just heard about it from some ppl so I’m giving it a read” or “my child brought this home so I’m checking it out.” Like it’s somehow surprising that it’s well written and good. Idk I just hate the way that was phrased. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels a bit condescending.
HA!
Yes, I thought it was condescending as hell. The guy, who is a great writer, someone I really admire, raved about the book, and then called it a ‘well-writen guilty pleasure,’ which…why?
I talked to him about it and he did admit it was oddly phrased. But at the time, it felt very weird, very I-like-a-girls-book-so-I-feel-guilty.
I thought he meant the art, but he said no.
