Fleetwood is Associate Professor of American Studies at Rutgers University. Fleetwood is the author of  Troubling Vision: Performance, Visuality, and Blackness (University of Chicago Press) and the forthcoming On Racial Icons: Blackness and the Public Imagination (Rutgers University Press).
