Delusional Brownback Doubles Down: Live from the Roasterie

What I most want to know right now is who was in on the confidence game at the beginning, and who is in on the confidence game right now.

It has become pretty clear to me that Sam Brownback at the beginning was not running the state-income-tax-cuts-will-produce-a-huge-boom confidence game, but was rather a mark in the confidence game.

But what is he right now?

Does he still believe that this is good for Kansas, in the sense that it will make a richer Kansas? Does he believe that it will make the rich of Kansas richer; and that, even though the non-rich of Kansas will have to deal with second-class schools, third-class infrastructure, and a fourth-class safety net, they will be forced to strive harder--and that will be good for them? Or does he just see no way out other than to join the confidence-game runners?

Over at Salon, Luke Brinker is astonished...

...at the Kansas governor's lack of remorse and refusal to chart a course correction:

Here’s what... Brownback’s supply side economic experiment has wrought... [a loss of] $5 billion in revenue over seven years... a $278 million revenue shortfall... slashing vital infrastructure spending and reducing [pension] contributions... [no] economic “shot of adrenaline” Brownback promised.... GDP growth lags behind... the region.... Kansas is ascending the national rankings on one measure, however: Last year, it ranked seventh in the nation among states residents left.

Surely this dismal state of affairs has Brownback considering a major course correction — right? Fat chance....

I try to remind myself that plenty of people in Kansas voted against Sam Brownback, but part of me looks at these citizens' looming regressive sales tax increases and thinks, "They're going to get exactly what they deserve"...

And I do not know whether current estimates in Topeka Factor in the forthcoming oil bust in Wichita or not...
