Guest Post - 3 New Year's Resolutions Achieved By Reading More Romance

You probably don't need another reason to increase your library of romance novels, but just in case you did, you should know that romance novels can actually be used to achieve some of the most common New Year's resolutions.

Skeptical? Take a look at some of these common goals and see if you can't find an excuse to add one more title to your collection.

Resolution 1: Read More
Sure, you can pick up any old book to achieve your goal of reading more this year. However, romance is the literary category that's going to leave you scrambling to find another, which will help you achieve your goal faster than any other genre. The reason is simple—instant gratification. The reward for reading is right in the content. Endorphins, or, "happy chemicals," can be released when reading any type of fiction. According to an article from Myne Whitman, though, you can experience them in greater numbers when reading about sex.

What better way to motivate yourself to read than getting consistently rewarded for doing so with a hot sex scene?

The best part is that there's no such thing as a bad romance book. Sure the plots are unrealistic at times, and the dialogue a little silly, but you've heard the expression before that sex is like pizza, right? Even when it's mediocre, it's still great. Well, think of romance novels in the same way. One mediocre book is never going to turn you off of the genre. Even if you read one that wasn't your particular cup of tea, the seductive sex scenes throughout will always pique your interest and leave you wanting more.

Resolution 2: Worry Less/Relax More
Nothing grabs our focus more than sex. We're unconsciously drawn to it. And when something takes hold of your attention as much as two electric characters finally intertwined in the heat of passion, it's hard to think about anything else.

An article from the Wall Street Journal says that reading can improve a person's "ability to concentrate, reduces stress levels and deepens their ability to think, listen and empathize." Throw in an engaging love story, humorous characters and intriguing plot, and your everyday worries will be the furthest thing from your mind. Whether it's on the page, or in your bed, sex is the perfect escape from the real world.

Resolution 3: Be a Better Spouse
Romance novels are full of ideas on how to strengthen the bond between you are your partner. Flipping through the pages, you're almost guaranteed to find exciting ideas for new dates and gain perspective seeing conflicts from two different vantage points. It's an idea reiterated in the aforementioned Wall Street Journal article, which claimed that "reading literary fiction helps people understand others' mental states and beliefs, a crucial skill in building relationships."

Of course just as beneficial as they can be for the emotional side of your relationship, they can help ten-fold to the physical side. According to Adam & Eve, romance novels can serve as an aid for letting go of your inhibitions while awakening your deepest desires. Your partner will appreciate your increased enthusiasm along with any new moves or positions you picked up. Plus, reading the novels out loud to one another can be be a sexy way to get in the mood for wherever the night takes you.

You may have made a resolution to cut out sugary treats this year, but that doesn't mean you still can't indulge in a sweet tale of romance. Arm yourself with a few good romance books and you'll be well on your way to a better you in 2015. Picture Picture
