The Book of Death

The Book of Death The Book of Death by Ramy Tadros

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed The Book of Death. There has been a lot of criticism for the book focusing on philosophical rants rather than plot and story, but I like philosophy. I was frankly more interested in the critiques of social progress, nihilism, atheism and scientism than the story or the characters. As it was the philosophical target was large and easy - the ideology that life has no meaning and all existence can be reduced to the interactions of atoms and molecules. But this ideology is popular in some circles and taking it down is a worthwhile endeavor. I also enjoyed the critique of the "multiverse" vs the universe theory and the role of randomness in the creation of life. Overall, I'm glad I read this book. I only wish the emotional tone of the story had not been so depressing.
