Why Yarn?
Yarn is soft. It is pretty. It is useful. For these three reasons alone it is my favorite medium for crafting. Today I am going to start a part series on yarn. Do you love it? Have you ever had questions about it? Hopefully I can help with the answers. To start, I am going to explain why I love yarn.
Yarn is soft. I can create soft things from it. The world is sometimes harsh. Soft can be good against hard corners and loud voices. I work in an environment where people get frustrated – customers and employees alike. When I hear an angry voice, especially if it is directed at me, it is a consolation to lay my hand on a soft yarn made item. When made of the right yarn, soft gloves help me in the kitchen and the garden. I’m not alone in my liking for soft yarn items. My cats like to lay on soft yarn blankets instead of the hard surfaces of floor and furniture.
Yarn is pretty. It soothes the eye as well as the skin. The right color hat can bring out the color in a persons’ cheeks. The right style and colors in sweaters can slim a figure. Yarn can be shaped into almost any shape you wish – round, square, rectangle, octagonal and more. It can be made with a tight weave or a loose lacey effect. Yes, yarn is pretty, and the products made from it can be, too.
Yarn is useful. It warms people and animals. It covers items both in both utilitarian and decorative ways. You can use it to create tools and aides alike. There are multiple ways of using it. Knit with it, loom with it, crochet with it, weave it, or more.
In my next yarn related post I will start with the beginning - making yarn. Stay tuned.
