The Storm Inside

By: Alyssa Pennini

It comes out of nothing

Like a flashing flood

My eyes close tight

My heart starts to thud

Blue skies and sunshine

Shift to raging storms

A cyclone at sea

Where there is no form

Winds howl, lightning strikes

Rain pours down on me

Waves rise high and fall

And I can hardly breathe

I struggle and strain

Attempting not to drown

My eyes fly wide open

Knees hit the ground

Back on dry land

All I can do is feel

It’s all been a mirage

The truth is what’s real

I am the storm and sea

They rage inside of me

Overwhelming, overpowering

I just want to be free

The tears form finally

And I can hardly see

Saltwater falls from eyes

Releasing the storm inside
