She knew the way once, but she lost it that day. He knew she was guessing, but followed her anyway. She felt the sea mist rise up to paint her face, he felt the wind from her wings flapping, heard her effort and felt calm in the directionless. She did not know the way, but he could not have cared any less. All she knew was the strength in her wings, the smell of the ocean below her, the comfort in him following so closely behind. All he knew was the water, the way the sunlight danced atop it, and the sound of her wings leading him away.
