I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee.

This apology echoes the words of Pharaoh long ago:

Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you. –Exodus 10:16
