There is a beauty in seeing smiles
a kind of beauty which kisses from a distance, like
walking in the rain or feeling the first rays of a sunrise
It’s how this smile
this distant kiss
it’s how it reaches in
and caresses your soul
till all that is left to do
is reach out
and link
one little finger of imagination to a wisp of their soul
and see how it is all so beautiful
The lesson to learn
is how to be something other
than a stationary artefact of life
is how to live life with a smile
and how this smile must be a natural smile
not something concocted to fit, to beguile, to coerce
This smile must belong
it must reach up from your soul
and travel along the very core of your being
until it bursts upon your face
a beacon to shine
and so illuminate in others
how it feels to have this smile within you
this light
this spirit of warmth
and so perhaps
as one candle to another
it will pass along the invisible cord of humanity
and so grow into something beautiful
