I write about this quite a bit....the bird-keeping in China. (Oh, and I have some of those same birdhouses shown in the background!)

Songbirds are just a common pet in China and to care for one properly involves a daily regimen of walks and socialization. It’s an ingrained part of Chinese culture and you can see many old men scattered around in parks with their amazing little birds for small singing competitions. Some of these small creatures can cost up to 60k kuai.
