Something New

Carly Icon

I know we're always talking about things we need to do – lose weight, excerise, etc. Always in search of new ways, ideas. I've tried gyms, I've tried Pilates, Yoga, etc. It's rare for me to stick with anything. More often than not, doing nothing is what I stick with. Well, last week I started Weight Watchers. After one week, I lost one pound. This week they discussed exercise. So I pushed myself this morning, did a series of exercises that are for body strengthening, then I downloaded "From Couch to 5K" onto my iPhone and did Day 1. In a nutshell, it tells me when to walk, when to run, when to walk … and changes it up, increasing each week. I did 2 miles on the treadmill yesterday and burned 275 calories. Huge for me. Now the hard part. Keeping it up. Because I didn't get any writing done yesterday. I'm a morning person. I'd rather write in the morning. Exercise in the morning. I can't do both, shower and get errands done. So this is a huge challenge for me, one I've yet to figure out.

Suggestions welcome!

Erin Good luck! (and I don't mean that sarcastically) I'm a member of that same club. I joined Weight Watchers almost two weeks ago. I'd love to do the Couch to 5K thing, but I think I did too much damage to my body when I was a runner in my teens/20s. Flat feet and too many bouts with tendonitis/physical therapy, etc. I make myself do 10 minutes on the treadmill 3 or 4 times a week (always with a book!) so that my knees don't hurt, but if I do more than that my tendons seem to all flare up, my heels hurt, my ankles burn, my hips ache. I'm only 43 for cryin' out loud! So I'm in a constant state of frustration over either my weight, or my injuries. For now I'm going to be happy if I can stick to Weight Watchers, and hope that my piddly amount of exercise is enough to help me lose 20 pounds by Valentine's Day. I'll worry about the other 30 or so later. :)
I hope you reach your goals. I'll be rootin' for ya!
