Horror beyond words

I’d hoped to begin my post by wishing my Jewish friends and readers a Happy Hanukkah, but
the world seems to be caught up in even more horrific violence than usual. First the hostage tragedy in Australia and today I awoke to learn that terrorists had attacked a school in Pakistan, deliberately killing as many children as they could. It is almost impossible to fathom evil like that. I will never understand how someone can kill a child. And it seems grimly appropriate to remember that Saturday was the second anniversary of the massacre of six year olds and their teachers at Sandy Hook. My heart goes out to all who lost loved ones to violence, for they are wounds that never heal.

Anduine I am with you in this 100%. The greatest cruelty is indeed that inflicted towards a child. Not that it is less teribly against others, but towards children it is even more so, maybe because they are the only innocent ones in this imperfect world until they grow up to a harsh world

Sharon Anduine, I have never forgotten listening to an interview with a Serbian sniper during the siege of Sarajevo as he matter-of-factly described how he targeted and shot a five year old boy. That gave me nightmares for months.

Anduine I guess there is no limit to the sickness the human mind can come up with, the only concelation I have is that there is also no limit to its beauty

Sharon And that so many people are capable of sacrificing themselves for others, Anduine, and have great empathy for the suffering of others.

Anduine that is true also

message 6: by Latisha (new)

Latisha Being a neighbor to Australia, I had known all my life how safe and profitable Austarila is, but switching the channel and seeing the breaking news I was dumfounded, I actually couldn't believe it, how were our Aussie friends going through this!? For 17hrs the freak held the people captive making demands...oh I couldn't imagine it! RIP! My thoughts to the familys!

message 7: by Judith (new)

Judith These terrorists know that the best way to inflict suffering is to strike at the most vulnerable among us. They didn't think of those children as children, they thought of them as their enemy. This is the horrifying reality of terrorism, you cannot appeal to a terrorist.

message 8: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I won't name him in that he 'loved' his face in the papers and I won't give him the satisfaction. He belonged to no terror network and none of them have claimed to be involved. This guy was going to face trial as an accomplice in his wife's horrific murder next year. He and his girlfriend murdered the poor woman, whose only mistake was marrying this narcissistic evil man. He was also facing 40 indecent assault charges.

The two heroes are the Manager Tori Johnson who jumped the gunman when some hostages escaped; his heroic action prevented them from being shot. Katrina Dawson used her body to protect and shield her friend who was pregnant thereby saving her friend and her unborn child.

But I do believe it is time for the Islamic community to be watchful of those who would harm their faith by committing acts of utter depravity against innocent people all over the world. There is no faith in the world that sanctions murder and barbarity, but in order to stop these psychopaths abusing the tenets of their faith, action is required and all hate filled letters, speeches etc… need to be investigated by the proper authorities.

To keep silent in the midst of hate is to become an accomplice however unwilling.

I am glad that this year I shall be having a quiet Christmas. But I wish you, Sharon, and all those above a Merry Christmas and let us hope for a more peaceful New Year.
