Irish Dancing

For the last month or more, Princess Galen has asked me every day if she could take Irish dancing. I’m not 100% sure where this interest came from, but I think it was from an episode of Angelina Ballerina.

We do not need one more activity, but the child has worn me down. She took a class to see if she liked it and even though she said it was “No fun” wants to go back again.

I’m inclined to tell her no, because like I said, we don’t need any more activities, but then I think, what if this is the one?

Moms, you know what I mean, right? When you have a young child, you’re looking for that one thing that sparks his or her interest and becomes a passion. For me, it was choir. I loved singing and I even majored in opera for a semester in college.

Is Irish dance the thing for PG? Or will it be piano? What about soccer? Gymnastics?

We can cross ballet and choir off the list. Swimming too. I don’t want to overload her with activities, though she does have a lot of energy, but I want to give her a chance to explore different activities and enough time to see if she really likes them. No one likes piano his or her first lesson or ballet. It takes time to learn how to play or dance. Then it’s fun (at least piano is; dance was never fun for clumsy me).

Moms who have kids with a passion, did you know right away or did it take time to take root and to cultivate?
