Facebook Chat
I was honored to be a part of a facebook chat hosted by After Dark Book Lovers and in case you missed it, here’s what went down!
Q: Is the Chess Board/Game a metaphor?
Beth: Hmmm… are the characters playing chess or am I playing it with my readers? I’m still not sure!
Q: Beth, what made you write about Stockholm Syndrome? I’m very intrigued as part of my degree I researched this topic.
Beth: I actually didn’t start out to write about it. The story just naturally took that course and I went with it. Thank you for asking!
Q: Who or what influenced you to write this book?
Beth: I’ve had the story in my head for a very long time. I knew I wanted to write it. My daughter, Kelli, actually convinced me to as we discussed it a few years back
Q: How did you come up with the name Guinevere Love Lemon because it’s the best motherfucking name in the world.
Beth: The name truly just popped into my head. I had to come up with something completely different.
Q: Did you actually go Woodstock and meet Jimi Hendrix?
Beth: Never went to Woodstock but I would’ve loved to have been there that morning!
Q: Are any of the characters in Nine Minutes going to be in Out of Time?
Beth: Yes, main characters will be in OOT (some through flashback scenes) and I am introducing several new ones.
Q: Will Ginny and Grizz daughter ever find out about Grizz? And will she be in the Out of Time?
Beth: Mimi will find out and she is in OOT, but not big part of story. Considering doing something else with her – maybe spinoff book.
Q: And is Grizz actually dead?
Beth: You know I love you, Jodi, but can’t answer the Grizz question!
Q: Who is your favorite main character? Are you team Grizz or the new husband?
Beth: Ahhh…I’m not allowed to pick sides!
Q: Why did Kit tell Leslie about how she actually lose her virginity??? Who trusts a reporter? Kit knew she never wanted Grizz to find out the truth, so why risk him finding out by telling someone?
Beth: Excellent question, Dawn! Grunt actually asks her that in OOT. It will be answered and I think you’ll understand.
Q: Did Grunt know Grizz was his father??? If so, what part if any of his childhood was true?
Beth: His childhood was true – the players were different.
Q: We all love Grizz, but he is the very definition of a BAD BOY… probably even worse than a bad boy honestly lol… so how do you feel about a bad boy? Is your husband scandalous too?
Beth: Hubby is total alpha male. He was raised by NYC narcotics detective. However, he is not mean or murdering like Grizz. He would stick up for the underdog. Married 31 years and I could tell you some serious stories. But, we’ll save that for another time!
Q: how did you decide to make Grunt be the father to his own sister for like 10 years… I mean he is sleeping with his father’s wife, raising his sister like it’s his own… that’s so weird! What’s wrong with him! How can he be okay with that??
Beth: I threw that scene at the eleventh hour. Didn’t give it much thought. No deep thinking. Was probably watching a Dr. Phil or something at the time. I remember thinking “everybody is going to know Grizz is his father. What else would shock?” Did it? And he loved Ginny. He wanted to be with Ginny at any cost.
Q: Which one of your Characters dialogue do you enjoy writing the most?
Beth: Without a doubt, Grizz. I thought he had the best one-liners!
Q: Does Ginny know Grunt is Kevin’s father?
Beth: No.
Q: What inspired you to write such a beautiful story??
Beth: Tough question. I’ve had it in my head for years. But, I didn’t start writing it down until I was dealing with some dark things in my life (breast cancer, my nieces unexpected death,). I guess it’s obvious in some of the darker parts of the book that I was trying to get some things out.
Q: How many times did you cry or seriously walk away from a scene while writing this book?
Beth: I really had a difficult time with Moe’s death. I cried then and I cried when Grizz told Ginny (on the phone in prison) “I love you, Ginny. I’ll always love you.”
Q: But seriously which part of spring can we expect OoT?
Beth: Hoping for April-ish. If I can get it out sooner I will! Promise!
Q: Besides the three main characters, which one of the supporting characters is your favorite?
Beth: Moe
Q: How do you feel about all the popularity and notoriety this book has gotten lately? The craze came a while after you published it, do you know how it suddenly caught fire and what do you think about your success?
Beth: NEVER expected it! It has been quite overwhelming and honestly, I am not used to the attention. Everybody has been wonderful (well, not everybody), but I stay away from the mean people! And I’m not famous. Just wrote a little story that some amazing people decided they liked and shared. Thank you!
Q: It felt like a true story. .. was it based on one?
Beth: No, Not any that I know of. I made it up!
Q: Random non-book question, one of your pics has you with a motorcycle. Do you ride? Do you have friends in an MC?
Beth: The cover is my daughter, Kelli (say hello Kelli) and Grizz is a fitness trainer in Columbia, SC. His name is Chase. Great guy. Doesn’t really look like Grizz but was willing to help me out! Yes, we have a Harley. We ride!! Love it!!!!
