NANO Days and Heart Break
So…it's November and I've officially joined NANO (my first!). Sure, I've participated before, but this time I actually registered and have some accountability. Although I've had a slow start I'm keen to get a choke hold on my NANO project and bring up my word count. The reason for my lack of NANO pep is below, however, I wanted to share this to show that yes, there are times when life makes it near impossible to write. But once the initial crisis has passed, writing offers a way to work through your issues. It's like therapy, but cheaper. ;0
We had to say goodbye to our 18.5 year old kitty, Vegas, this week. Ugh, broke my heart. If you have pets, give them extra love today and everyday, they deserve it. Now we're down to our two crazy labs and it seems like an end to an era. Here's a pic of me with Vegas the day we brought her home. (Ignore my glasses – it was the early 90s!)
That seems like so long ago. What a great bunch of mischief little Vegas grew up to be. She used to sleep in my guitar case. She'd sleep on the pages of writing I'd toss to the floor. I think she had a French accent. See you at the Rainbow Bridge, my friend.

"When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…. "
