We found this really neat infographic talking about the basics of online marketing for authors and thought it would be very relevant for all of you here on Goodreads:

If you don't feel like clicking the link, here's a really good summary for you:

1. Get a Website for your Book. This is a very basic but important step a lot of authors miss. They generally think of places like Goodreads and Amazon to post their books (which are still very important!), but having your own website is an incredibly useful tool as you can drive traffic directly to your book and inform people about it in a way you can't on other author platforms.

2. Start an Author Blog. An author blog is different from a book website. This would be specifically about the author and showcases your inner thoughts to help give people insight to you as a person. Today's readers want to be informed and this gives them the opportunity to get to know you and possibly become loyal readers.

3. Social Media Networking. We can hear the collective sigh. Social media - we know we should all do it but how do you find the time, and what do you say? Well, there are actually many tools to help you schedule posts to multiple platforms (.g. hootsuite), and for some tips on social media marketing check out this helpful article to get you started:

4. Use Images and Video. YouTube is the second largest search platform after Google, with more than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month in 2013. People love visuals with their text so be sure to incorporate them when and where you can.

5. Build a List. Meeting people and attracting people to your site and social media platforms is important, but as they say, what isn't measured isn't managed. When possible, every website visit, blog comment and Facebook Like should be recorded.
